Hollyoaks star Owen Warner pays sweet tribute to Niamh Blackshaw after Juliet's exit

Hollyoaks star Owen Warner has paid tribute to his on-screen sister Niamh Blackshaw, whose cancer-stricken character died this week.

Wednesday evening's episode of the Channel 4 soap saw fans left distraught after the final scenes of Juliet Nightingale, played by Niamh, came to a devastating end.

Juliet was diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin lymphoma — an uncommon form of cancer — earlier this year.

Warner, who plays Juliet’s big brother Romeo Nightingale, has since taken to Instagram to heap praise on Niamh, as he uploaded a number of pictures of the pair on-set together.

The actor said: "It’s been emotional lil Niamh, best little sister I could’ve asked for. I’m sure everyone will agree with me when I say you’re going to go on and do an absolute madness, can’t wait to see what you do next."

Niamh replied under the post by saying: "My big brother always. I feel so incredibly grateful and lucky to have you in my life."

The tear-jerking instalment of Hollyoaks saw Juliet’s final moments with her girlfriend Peri, as she revealed what would have been her vows on their wedding day.

She began: "You were my friend first, my beautiful amazing friend, and then suddenly you were so much more.

"You are and always will be the love of my life. I want to have it all with you. I want to laugh with you, cry with you and dance under the stars with you, for the rest of our lives."

After her final scenes played out on screen, the official Instagram account of Hollyoaks posted a tribute to the character.

"You've been incredible to watch and we will miss you so much! And good luck for the future!"

Her heartbreaking departure from the soap came just over a week after fans of EastEnders were left heartbroken following the death of cancer-stricken Lola Pearce.
