High school football coach fired for rap video

A high school football coach in California was fired for appearing in a rap video about drugs.

Otis Newell, the former defensive coordinator at Simi Valley High, produced the video called “U Need It, I Got It,” which depicts him selling drugs out of an ice cream truck.

The school district informed Newell that they could not align themselves with “negative images and illegal activity, whether real or fictitious.”

Newell claimed that he was using the song as a message that kids sometimes need to “hustle” in order to get to a better place in life.

Despite getting support from some current and former players, Newell’s metaphor wasn’t quite understood by the school district.
