Vanderpump Rules is in its season of break ups, apparently. Before season 10 even kicked off, Katie Maloney, 36, and Tom Schwartz’s, 40, ended their 12 year relationship. The crown for Vanderpump Rules’ favorite couple was almost passed down to Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval, but, sadly, the couple also split in March 2023 after Tom Sandoval allegedly cheated on Ariana with VPR co-star Raquel Leviss. There must be something in the air!
Katie and other Tom's break up isn't as fresh—but it's just as shocking. It’s been almost a year since the pair announced their divorce in March 2022, but this season has been the first time VPR fans get to see the pair interact on the show after the split. The couple’s divorce was finalized in October 2022, and, despite Tom's claim that they make “model divorcées,” the exes definitely add a little spice to this season’s drama. Always a win when it comes to Bravo!
The couple said the divorce was amicable in their initial Instagram posts, but the season 10 trailer, and season so far, hints otherwise. “If it wasn’t for this bar, me and Katie would still be together,” Tom says at one point during the trailer. In another clip, Tom asks Katie to “come back so we can end this on a positive note,” after which viewers hear the call ending—indicating that Katie hung up on him.
So, was it business that separated the couple? Here’s everything to know (so far) about the iconic VPR couple’s divorce, plus who Tom and Katie are apparently dating now.
Why did Katie and Tom get divorced?
Katie officially announced she was divorcing Tom on Instagram after rumors circulated about her missing wedding ring. In her post, Katie claimed the couple was on “different paths” but that they still had “deep admiration for each other.”

Tom also posted about the separation, saying he still had “so much love” for Katie. In April, Katie made an appearance on the podcast We Met At Acme, and gave more details about why the couple’s 12-year relationship ended. Katie said she first felt like things were changing between them in late 2021.

“[I’d] been bogged down and putting all this energy into this relationship and [something was] making me feel really sad and bad about myself,” Katie said.
She went on to say that when she realized the “something” was her relationship, she didn’t want it to be. “I was in love with him and he was a person I wanted to be with. It’s a really hard thing to come to terms with,” Katie explained.
The podcast host, Lindsey Metselaar, then asked Katie if there was any one thing that Tom could’ve changed to save their relationship, and Katie implied it was a lot more complicated than that. “It wouldn’t have been one thing. I’d been expressing my feelings and where I was not getting my needs met and where I thought I was being hurt by some of the behavior. I don’t think he understood,” she said.
In December 2022, Katie said she was “proud” of herself for divorcing Tom on the Papaya Podcast.
Tom was struggling post-divorce.
The VPR star said that he was a “hot mess” coming out of the divorce in an exclusive interview with US Weekly in October 2022. “I was kind of wallowing in my new little bachelor pad, and I didn’t unpack for like three months,” he said.
In an Instagram post Tom made after the couple first went public with their separation, he wrote, “Yes my heart aches but I’ll be ok. Not looking to evoke any sympathy here. I’m not the victim.”

Katie and Tom still see each other.
Yes, the couple still hang out with together—and not only when filming VPR. Katie referred to Tom as her “best friend” on an episode of her podcast, You’re Gonna Love Me in August 2022. During the episode, Tom mentioned they still spend time together.

“We still hang out,” he said. “Not in an unhealthy, exorbitant way. We give each other space and boundaries.”
The couple also mentioned they still share custody of their dogs.
Katie and Tom sold their Village Valley home.
Tom and Katie allegedly sold their home in August 2022 for over 2 million, per US Weekly. Multiple sources claimed the couple put their house on the market in June 2022, asking for 2.7 million.
Katie and Tom had lived in their Village Valley home together since 2019. Katie and Tom now live in separate apartments, according to Bravo. Katie has said she enjoys decorating her own apartment on her podcast, You’re Gonna Love Me, and has even sent Tom a few housewarming presents—an air fryer and a vanilla annamica—which Tom documented on his Instagram stories, per Bravo.
Who is Tom dating now?
In August, Tom was spotted making out with fellow VDR star Raquel Leviss at Scheana Shay and Brock Davies’ wedding according to a source for US Weekly, and viewers can actually see them caught in the act in the VDR season 10 trailer.
In another clip, Katie seemingly reacts to the situation. "I've never had hatred for you and now I do. I think you're pathetic, I think you're a drunk and I think you're a loser," she said.
I guess, considering that Tom Sandoval is also linked to Raquel Leviss now, this didn't go anywhere. On an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Tom also admitted he's not looking for a very serious relationship. "I don't think I'll ever get married again. I'll fall in love, I just don't think I'll ever be married again," he said, per US Weekly.
There's also a bit of jealous energy brewing between the exes. During season 10, Katie apparently tries to stop Tom from talking to a patron at his restaurant, which makes him ask her to leave.
"It's always about you, isn't it? I think you should leave — I would prefer actually if you left. [There is] bad energy in here. Emotionally entitled bad energy," he said, per US Weekly.
Is Katie dating anyone new?
Tom isn't the only one moving on. In October 2022, Katie was linked to Satchel Clendenin, a 25-year-old actor, per US Weekly. However, the reality star said it was simply a "casual thing" in December 2022, per Bravo.
She was also linked to White Lotus star Lukas Gage, but their relationship has never been confirmed. However, Lukas didn't exactly deny the rumors in a recent Bustle interview, confirming he did invite Katie to his hotel room once. Hmm.
Still, Katie claims she’s just having fun, so the relationships she's pursuing might not be super serious. “You know, [I’m] not [dating] seriously but just like [to] have fun and get out there and, like, flirt and maybe kiss some boys,” she told US Weekly in July 2022.
In December 2022, Katie claimed on her podcast that 2023 is "all about revenge" for her. If that means revenge from her divorce, it seems like she's getting plenty.
“I’ve made out with, like, three people and then done the full deed with, like, two,” Katie said in an exclusive clip from the upcoming season of VPR shared with US Weekly.
