Temple’s Haason Reddick is expected to be selected in the first round of Thursday’s NFL draft. But before he starred on the field for the Owls, he arrived on campus as a walk-on.

Reddick was able to earn a scholarship and after Temple’s spring game on Saturday, he was there for another walk-on’s — tight end Chris Myarick — big moment.

First, Myarick, a redshirt junior, earned the distinction of “most valuable walk-on” from ESPN’s Kevin Neghandi, a Temple graduate. It got better from there with new Owls head coach Geoff Collins announcing that Myarick, with his parents at his side, has been put on full scholarship. Pretty cool.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Myarick played in all 14 games last year for the Owls and registered his first career reception, a 14-yarder, against Penn State. He also made his first career start against Stony Brook. He also appeared in four games in 2015 as a redshirt freshman.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Myarick actually found out on Friday night, but that didn’t lessen the moment he had with his teammates and parents.

“I was in pure shock and smiles from ear to ear, and when I saw my parents out there it felt like a dream, all the hard work coming through,” Myarick said.

Moments like that never get old, and it had to be super motivating for other Temple walk-ons — especially with a guy like Reddick as an example.
