Guillaume Donovan, David Foucher trial dates to be set in September

Trial dates for two former University of Ottawa hockey players facing sexual assault charges should be set next month.

During a brief discussion in Thunder Bay court on Tuesday, the matter of David Foucher and Guillaume Donovan was remanded to September 13, when trial dates for the pair are expected to be locked in.

Foucher and Donovan each face a charge of sexual assault in connection with an incident involving a 21-year-old woman at a Thunder Bay hotel in February 2014.

Both were members of the Ottawa men's hockey team at the time, and were in Thunder Bay playing against the Lakehead University Thunderwolves.

The charges have not been proven in court.

The trial of Foucher and Donovan had been scheduled to begin earlier this month, but was postponed due to a medical issue involving the family of one of the defence lawyers.

Reports of the alleged sexual assault led the University of Ottawa to suspend its men's hockey program on March 3, 2014.

The team has been reinstated, and will return to the ice for the 2016-2017 Canadian Interuniversity Sport season with a new coach, roster, and behavioural guidelines for players.
