Saturday was “Toy Night” for AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, your current West Division leaders. That meant it was time for the organization to break out the stop-motion LEGO videos, something they’ve done in the past.

There was the Hockey Night in Grand Rapids opener:

And then the tribute to WWE NXT superstar Bobby Roode:

Finally, the stop-motion greatness ended with one last video to tune of the great Martin Zellar tune, “I Wanna Drive the Zamboni.”

The geniuses behind the videos are Michael Spruit, a digital media production assistant; Michael King, the team’s digital media producer; Phil Cronin, director of game operations; and video production intern Geoff Rizor. A few staff members also pitched in to help.

Last season during LEGO Night, Spruit, King and Cronin were the ones behind the videos of Anthony Mantha being transported to LEGO World, a very fun “Jingle Bell Rock” performance and a montage set to Stompin’ Tom Connors’ “The Hockey Song.”

The Griffins told Yahoo Sports on Monday that 13,562 LEGOs and 137 figures were used, and that three cameras were needed to snap the 3,916 photos to make the stop-motion videos. All in all, it took the team 225 man hours to create. A job well done.
