In convincing fashion, Gerard Gallant of the Vegas Golden Knights was named the 2017-18 Jack Adams Award winner as the best coach in the National Hockey League.

Simply making the playoffs with a team that was starting from scratch would have all but cemented Gallant as the NHL’s best coach; he took the expansion club to Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Under Gallant’s tutelage, the Golden Knights posted a 51-24-7 record in the regular season, which was good enough for the team to become the first in the modern era to win its division in its inaugural season.

It has been far from a glamorous climb for the man nicknamed ‘Turk.’ Being fired immediately after a loss to the Carolina Hurricanes as the coach of the Florida Panthers in 2016, the Summerside, P.E.I. native was not found on the team plane as the team exited town, but rather taking a taxi from PNC Arena with his luggage in hand.

Gallant finished with more votes than Bruce Cassidy of the Boston Bruins and Jack Bednar of the Colorado Avalanche for the Jack Adams.

This is the second time in the past three seasons that Gallant has been nominated for the honour. He was recognized first while with the Panthers.
