When is it going to rain again in South Florida? Here’s what the forecast says

Many years ago country singer-songwriter Marty Robbins sang of two parched men wandering about and praying for “cool, clear water.” They, like you, may be wondering in these hot and mostly dry March days when Mother Nature will “spread the burnin’ sands with cool, clear water?”

The forecast says you may have to wait until Tuesday — and even then the rain chance is, at best, 30%, said Ana Torres-Vazquez, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Miami.

On Saturday, areas near Lake Okeechobee and north could see a few showers after 4 or 5 p.m. But “the next time that South Florida could see rain again would probably be Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday,” she said.

“There might be a front along the Florida peninsula and there could be chances for isolated showers, mostly, in Palm Beach County and areas of Broward County. But there doesn’t really seem to be much support for thunderstorms with those at this time,” Torres-Vazquez said Friday afternoon.

Expect continued warmth through the weekend into next week. “We don’t currently anticipate any record breaking heat but we need to monitor conditions that could possibly be in the cards for the future,” she said.

Look for highs in the mid-80s and lows in the mid-70s Saturday and Sunday and through Wednesday, according to the weather service. The Florida Keys similarly will be warm and mostly dry with only a 10% rain chance Saturday and 20% Wednesday.

Rip current risk

Torres-Vazquez does have a message for the remaining spring breakers on South Beach. Watch out for dangerous rip currents along coastal Miami-Dade and Broward beaches on the east coast through the weekend.
