Gogglebox’s Tom Malone has warned that racism is still “a massive issue in the UK” after his girlfriend was subjected to abuse on social media.

The TV star, 26, spoke out after a troll posted a racist message about his girlfriend Bryony Briscoe.

He shared the offensive message with his followers on Twitter, saying: “This happened just minutes ago... 2020.

“Racism is a massive issue in the UK whether you want to admit it or not.”

He said in a separate message that it was not right to suggest the troll was just acting out of jealousy.

“A lot of people are trying to brush this off as someone that’s ‘jealous’,” he told his followers on the site.

“I know you guys mean well but that’s just belittling the issue.

“The issue here is blatant racism... not jealousy.

“Most people who get jealous resort to unfollowing me... not racial abuse.”

Briscoe also commented on the abusive post, saying that it made her feel “tired”.

“Imagine being racially abused in a post that doesn’t even have my face in it,” she said. “How can these people be BOTHERED.”

Malone and his family, who are from Manchester, joined Gogglebox in its fourth series back in 2014 and have been regulars on the Channel 4 programme since then.

He is thought to have started dating Briscoe in June this year after they met through friends.

In August, the star called out on someone on TikTok who made a racist comment about Briscoe.
