Goalkeeper tends to injured seagull during final

Sydney FC goalkeeper Danny Vukovic’s biggest save during the FFA Cup final against Melbourne FC on Wednesday night might have been when he tended to an injured seagull.

The stray seagull flew on to the pitch during the match when it was hit by the ball. Vukovic saw the wounded bird and tried to get the referee’s attention. After a stoppage in play, Vukovic gathered the seagull and tended to it as support staff ran onto the field.

The stunned seagull was later shown on the sideline sitting in the lap of a Sydney FC official for a portion of the game before eventually flying off.

Melbourne FC ended up winning the game 1-0.
