Goalie spectacularly flips skater in puck chase collision (Video)

Whenever a goalie leaves their crease to chase after a puck, it can be an adventure.

At best, they win the race and put the disc out of harm’s way. At worst, it’ll turn into a trainwreck, and the opposition will have the gaping maw of the net to shoot at, as the goalie stumbles to his feet.

Karel Vejmelka, a Nashville Predators goalie prospect playing for HC Kometa Brno in the Czech Extraliga, recently had an adventure of his own making. He nudged the puck along the boards, before realizing none of this teammates were there to support him. So he raced after it – but so did HC Plzen’s Tomas Svoboda.

Vejmelka closed in. Svoboda closed in. The goalie got to the puck a split second before the skater did, moving it away. He was low. Lower than Svoboda. And what happened next was flippin’ amazing:

Hockey
Hockey

Weeeeee!

Never a good thing when you’re going skates-over-eyebrows on a collision with the goalie.

Vejmelka lost his mask, but won the battle. It appeared neither player was hurt, despite the aerial display.
