Girona defender reveals admiration for Real Madrid veteran – ‘He could have won the Ballon d’Or’
Arnau Martinez, one of Girona’s captains, has expressed his admiration for Real Madrid veteran Dani Carvajal, considering him an inspiration despite his own background in Barcelona’s youth system.
For Martinez, facing Real Madrid always holds a special significance, as it pits him against one of the clubs he respects most and a player he views as a role model.
Unfortunately, Carvajal will not feature in this weekend’s clash at Montilivi due to an injury. Nevertheless, Martinez openly acknowledges his admiration for the Madrid full-back.
Admiration for Carvajal
When asked about the players he looks up to, Martinez highlighted Carvajal for his mental strength and playing style, praising the veteran for his approach to the game.
“I only look at one: Carvajal. His mentality, how he plays,” he told Cadena SER (h/t AS).
Interestingly, this discussion comes amid ongoing debates about the Ballon d’Or, which Manchester City’s Rodri won.
Martinez, though, suggested that Carvajal would have been a worthy recipient of the prestigious award, pointing out the veteran’s consistent performances and contributions to his team.
“He could have won the Ballon d’Or, they could have given it to him perfectly. I think he deserves it,” he added.
One to watch
As for Martinez himself, he has become a vital player for Girona under manager Michel. Known for his versatility, Martinez can operate as a full-back, centre-back, or even in midfield, showcasing his tactical intelligence and physical attributes.
When Girona take on Real Madrid tomorrow, the defender will be one of the key players to watch. His role in this match will likely see him tasked with facing one of the world’s best attackers; Kylian Mbappe.
However, considering the Frenchman’s current form, this duel could culminate in something very interesting.
