“Gets thrown out a lot” – Pundit speaks truths on Chelsea’s ‘quite clever’ £1.2m spent

We have grown used to seeing a lot of lazy takes and reporting on Chelsea in recent seasons as the club struggled in the last few years.

Things got pretty toxic until this season started to go much better for them, and during these times, there was a lot of pundits and media taking shots at the club.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea exploring new goalkeepers and centre backs – BIG names REVEALED!!!

There was always a lot said, and still is actually, about Chelsea spending so much money, with £1.2m being the figure mentioned for this report in particular.

But the reality is, first and foremost, these figures that get thrown around will not always be as high as that because the figure that gets reported always includes all the bonuses on top, and sometimes, those bonuses aren’t always earned so said figures are not always as high as they report them to be.

And the second thing about this has been excellently explained by talkSPORT’s Andy Jacobs this week, and it’s refreshing to hear some truths reported on all of this for a change.

Jacobs is spot on

Jacobs says:

“If you look at the two benches (Tottenham and Chelsea) on Sunday, that says everything.

“This figure (£1.2m spent) gets thrown out a lot, but it’s not just about spending, it’s net spend. And the net spend isn’t anything like that. They [Chelsea] have been quite clever what they have done. They have sold a lot of players.”

And that is the point. Chelsea have completely rebuilt their squad from the top to the bottom and changed it completely. So they were replacing players they had sold with new players, it’s not just like they are spending blind and not selling, it’s all balanced up, and we have sold very well too.
