German superstar prefers Bundesliga stay as Bayern Munich leapfrog Real Madrid in transfer battle
Bayern Munich have initiated talks with Bayer Leverkusen’s rising star, Florian Wirtz, who has also caught the attention of Real Madrid.
According to sources from Sky Germany (via Mundo Deportivo), Wirtz, who is currently one of the most sought-after young players in Europe, is set to become a major name in next summer’s transfer market.
The 21-year-old has been a key player under Xabi Alonso and he has been pivotal to their success. In fact, many believe this could be his final season with the club.
Although his contract runs until 2027, it is widely expected that he will move on next summer, with major European clubs lining up to sign him.
Bayern Munich have everything planned
At the moment, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid appear to be the leading contenders in the race to sign the talented playmaker.
Both clubs have their eyes set on a potential move in 2025, but Bayern seem to have taken the early lead. Alonso, meanwhile, is reportedly keen on keeping Wirtz, but it looks like Bayern are already positioning themselves to secure his signature.
According to Sky Germany, Bayern’s top priority for next summer is to bring in Wirtz. However, if that move does not materialise, the Bavarian giants could turn their attention to Xavi Simons.
Wirtz aware of the interest
Despite the interest from Real Madrid, Bayern have already made initial contacts with Wirtz’s camp. The young German star is aware of the interest and reportedly favours staying in the Bundesliga for a few more years before making a move abroad.
On the other hand, Leverkusen are expected to demand around €80 million for Wirtz, a price that reflects his immense potential and current ability.
It remains to be seen whether Bayern or Real Madrid will meet this valuation, but it is clear that Wirtz will be one of the hottest properties in next summer’s transfer market.
