It looks like we could see Georgia running back Nick Chubb get some playing time in the first game of the season.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart said Wednesday that Chubb could get some carries in the game. Chubb was sidelined for the remainder of the 2015 season in October of last year when he suffered a nasty left knee injury against Tennessee.

“I think everybody’s in line to get carries,” Smart said via UGA Sports and NBC 11. “Nick’s in line, Elijah’s (Holyfield) in line, Brian’s (Herrien) in line, Brendan Douglas is in line, Tae Crowder’s in line. All those guys are in line to get carries.”

Chubb, a junior in 2016, ran for 1,547 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2014 as he replaced Todd Gurley, who was suspended and then suffered a knee injury shortly after his return. Chubb’s statistics were even better in 2015 before he was injured. He had 747 yards on 92 carries; an average of over 8 yards per carry.

RB Sony Michel’s status is still unclear for the Sep. 3 game in Atlanta. Michel broke a forearm in an ATV accident over the July 4 weekend. Michel was Chubb’s primary replacement in 2015 and ran for over 1,100 yards.
