George Brett talks porn staches and hitting the sauna on 'Old Baseball Cards'

Welcome to the new season of Old Baseball Cards and, boy, do we have a treat for you: Hall of Famer and Kansas City Royals legend George Brett is our first guest of 2018 and he does not disappoint.

Brett is famous for a number of things — his play on the field, first and foremost, but anybody whose been around baseball also knows he’s quite the character. And he proves that in this episode. He talks about porn staches, getting in the sauna with Kirk Gibson and gets surprised by the news that Lenny Dykstra isn’t in jail anymore, all while grabbing and tossing baseball cards everywhere.

This episode — like George Brett himself — is a hoot.

Since this is the first episode of the new season, we also have some changes to announce. Starting with this episode, we’re getting away from 25-year-old baseball cards and just picking old cards that relate better to our subjects. There were no unopened 1993 cards sitting in my garage, so instead we’re changing things up and using different cards in each episode.

Most times, you’ll see that the cards are a little more tailored to our guests — we gave George Brett 1985 Fleer because the Royals won the World Series that year. I’ll also open packs that are different from our guests, in the hopes of find some interesting cross-generational trades. In this episode, I opened 1987 Topps.

If this is your first time coming across our show, we open old cards with notable baseball people and famous fans. It all started with cards my grandma bought back in the day. They were total junk wax and worthless, so we use them to get baseball people to tell us stories. We have plenty of great episodes you should check out below:
