If you’re a TCU student needing some advice, you can reach out to Gary Patterson on Twitter.

The coach said Tuesday that he enjoys interacting with TCU students via Twitter in the evenings. He said students have messaged him after he tweets one of his standard TCU tweets late in the evening.

“I talk to a lot of students on this campus,” Patterson said at his Tuesday press conference. “They all know I’m up late. Usually you see the ‘Go Frogs’ thing I put out, or ‘Calling All Frogs,’ usually it’s somewhere after 10 or 11 o’clock at night.

“It’s substituted now for any TV watching that I used to ever do like Criminal Minds or any of those that I like to watch.”

You’re probably wondering how in the world the topic of Twitter direct messages came up during Patterson’s press conference. The discussion started when Patterson — who has been at TCU 16 years — mentioned a student messaged him with a dilemma about a career choice.

He said he could relate to her position. Patterson has been mentioned multiple times throughout his TCU career as a potential candidate at other schools.

“It’s funny, I got a DM from one of the students here,” Patterson said. “Two job offers. She had one where she would travel, get more experience, pay better, all of it. One, a job she could probably stay there the rest of her life if she did well. It was kind of interesting, it’s 11:00 and I’m getting this and I’m working on scripts.

“Basically I kind of gave her the same scenario I’ve had … It’s easy to want to go jump and do the things you need to do or make something you’re own. Both of them you can win at. Both of them are positives.”

TCU, 5-4, hosts Oklahoma State at Noon ET on Saturday. A win makes the Horned Frogs bowl-eligible for the fourth-straight season.
