Gabriel Jesus on how playing with Sergio Aguero can help Manchester City make history

Manchester City moved away from their usual formula of only playing one striker by partnering Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus together in Sunday’s 6-1 win against Huddersfield.

Aguero scored a hat-trick and Jesus was on target in Sunday’s win as Pep Guardiola’s side continued their winning start to their Premier League title defence.

City’s three at the back allowed the two South-Americans to play alongside each other, something Jesus is keen to continue doing.

“Our team has six players capable of playing in the attack, all of them really good,” he told the club’s website.

“Pep opted for Sergio and myself, just like he has done last season and I think there was only one match where we didn’t so well - but usually when we both play together we do a great job. We can indeed play together!

“Sergio and I have the spirit of scoring goals and always try to finish well. I’ve started this season with the aim to get better with my finishes, to keep helping the team.”

Jesus recently signed a two-year contract extension which could keep him at the club until 2023.

“His fight to put every effort in is incredible…I never met one striker fight like he fights,” said Guardiola when Jesus committed his future to City.

“Pep is super intelligent,” Jesus said of his manager. “He knows what the team needs and when and of course, I’ll be always at his disposal whenever I'm called upon. I’ll always keep the same spirit.

City further affirmed their title credentials by beating Arsenal in their opening game then putting six past Huddersfield as the Guardiola project enters its third year.

The only title missing from City’s ever-growing trophy cabinet is the Champions League. City were beaten in the quarter-finals by Liverpool last season and came closest under Manuel Pellegrini in 2015/16 when they were beaten by Real Madird in the semi-final.

“We play because we love doing it, we’re at a great club and we want to keep writing history for Manchester City,” said Jesus.

"So we must carry on, repeat what we’ve been doing and see where it takes us. It will be tough, but this is why we’re here."
