Gabourey Sidibe, the American actress who shot to fame in the movie Precious, has said that Anna Kendrick's career took off after her Oscar nomination, in 2010, but her's did not.

Both were nominated – Sidibe for Precious and Kendrick for Best Supporting for her role in the indie comedy-drama Up In The Air – and while neither went home with the award, Sidibe has said that the 'seas did not part for me'.

Speaking to Collider, she said: “I’ve heard the idea that I’m just lucky before. I’ve heard that. I’m an extremely unlucky person, actually. I work really, really hard though. And no, the Hollywood seas didn’t part for me in the same way that it might have for maybe Anna Kendrick who was nominated for the first time that year as well, who then went on to star in films and television and the whole thing.

“The seas did not part that same way for me and I assume that there are a few factors that made that so, but I am still working 10 years later.”

She went on: “I have agency. I am comfortable with who I am. I know my voice. I know what I want to say to the world. I know what I want to give to the world and what I want to give to myself. I know my artistry.”

After making her break in the Twilight movies, Kendrick went on to star in the popular Pitch Perfect series, along with the likes of End of Watch, the star-studded In the Woods and most recently the Trolls movies.

Sidibe went on to appear in Ben Stiller's Tower Heist, and hit TV shows including The Big C, American Horror Story, and Empire.

Her latest film, the horror movie Antebellum, has just been released in the US.
