Frustrated Gegard Mousasi Might Just Throw Bottles at Heads to Get Noticed

UFC Issues Statement Addressing Controversial Travel Ban Executive Order

Gegard Mousasi came into the UFC as a potential contender three years ago. Although he's gone a respectable 7-3 since then, he still can't seem to get the attention he feels he deserves.

Now he's starting to get vocal about it.

“I think I’m underrated throughout my whole career,” he said at the UFC 204 post-fight press conference. “I don’t know, maybe (because) I’m from Holland, people don’t care. Maybe I’ll throw some bottles on someone’s head and people are going to notice me.”

Mousasi is, of course, referring to the infamous bottle-throwing press conference involving Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. That presser did wonders to draw intrigue in a fight between the two, and Mousasi apparently looked on and wondered if that's something he has to do in order to get title shots.

It's and odd thing, according to Mousasi, who boiled it down to stupidity as the reason for people being so interested in such drama.

“That sells. People are stupid,” he said, later adding that his comments stem from being frustrated and unsatisfied with his current standing in the UFC. “What can I say? They don’t know who’s a real fighter or not, they just like to see expensive stuff on Instagram.”

Instead of throwing bottles at UFC 204, Mousasi beat Vitor Belfort via technical knockout in the co-main event on Saturday, finishing off “The Phenom” in the second round. While the finish was impressive to most, it didn't warrant a callout by middleweight champion Michael Bisping after he defended his title in the evening's featured bout.

Even so, Mousasi is confident that if he does fight Bisping one day, it'll be an easy contest for him.

“I like Michael Bisping, but you guys know I can beat him,” he said. “I would beat Michael Bisping. I would jab his face the whole night, easy.”
