Freshman QB Watson out with collarbone injury

AP - Sports

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Clemson freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson hurt his collarbone during a scrimmage Monday and won't play in this weekend's Orange & White game concluding spring practice.

The school said Watson suffered a slight crack in the collarbone near the end of the session and will need about three weeks to recover.

Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said the injury was not serious and Watson would be ready when summer workouts begin in May.

Watson was one of Clemson's top recruits this past February and enrolled early to take part in spring workouts and compete for the starting job vacated by last year's record-setting senior Tajh Boyd.

Swinney said Watson was having a strong spring and he knew fans were anxious to watch him play at Death Valley on Saturday.
