Frank Gore, Hurricanes legend, goes back to Miami to play with the Dolphins

Frank Gore’s incredible football career is coming full circle.

Gore, a standout at the University of Miami, is joining the Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal according to multiple reports. For most running backs who will turn 35 years old before opening day, you’d say Gore is planning to end his NFL career where he played in college. But Gore might play forever.

Gore is fifth in NFL history with 14,026 yards. He is the San Francisco 49ers’ all-time leading rusher, then spent the last three years with the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts wanted to get younger so they passed on bringing Gore back, but general manager Chris Ballard gushed about the type of leadership and toughness Gore brought to the Colts.

“His three years left an impact on the locker room and people like I don’t know if I’ve seen another player do,” Ballard said at the combine.

“He’s a Hall of Fame player in my mind, without question a first-ballot Hall of Fame player.”

That’s part of the value in signing Gore. He is still a capable running back, coming off a 961-yard season on a bad Colts team. He can help spell Kenyan Drake, but maybe more importantly he can set a positive tone in the Dolphins locker room. That will last in Miami long after Gore has retired, whenever that happens.

When Gore was drafted out of Miami in 2005, he probably didn’t envision himself playing in Miami in 2018. But it seems like a pretty good fit for everyone.
