Francisco Lindor had to eat floor cake on his birthday

As far as birthday accidents go, dropping the cake on the floor has to be up there, right? Well now Francisco Lindor, shortstop for the Cleveland Indians, can say he’s experienced and overcome that particular ordeal.

It was Lindor’s 23rd birthday on Monday, and to celebrate his family brought out a cake. They lit the candles and then he blew them out. All normal. All the good stuff happens after that moment, which is where the video begins.

I’m not sure if it’s a tradition in Francisco’s family to smear everyone’s faces with frosting, but it’s a tradition I’d like to import into my life right now. But that’s how the cake ends up on the floor. After Lindor gets some celebratory frosting smeared on his face, his brother, who is holding the cake, goes in for a one-armed hug. That involved transferring the cake plate from two hands to one, so one arm could hug and the other hand could hold the all-important birthday cake.

It didn’t end well. The cake tilted toward one side, and before anyone could do anything it had slid off the plate and on to the floor with a giant FLOP. That’s definitely an error, or as Lindor put it, #ErrorOnMyBirthday.

The best part here? No one, not even Francisco, was sad or upset. Everyone laughed and let out a big cheer. Hey, it happens! Plus, the cake fell in the perfect position. It landed straight up, so most of it could be saved. According to the tag on Lindor’s Instagram post, they rescued the cake from the floor and ate it anyway. Because everyone knows that on your birthday, eating floor cake is better than eating no cake.
