Yahoo Sports Former U.S. gymnastics coach linked to Larry Nassar charged with two dozen crimes
Former U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics head coach John Geddert was charged Thursday with two dozen crimes, according to the Associated Press.
Geddert, 63, was the head coach of the 2012 women's gymnastics team, which won multiple gold medals. Geddert's charges included sexual assault, human trafficking and running a criminal enterprise.
Geddert was charged with 14 counts of human trafficking — forced labor resulting in injury. Geddert was also charged with 6 counts of human trafficking of a minor for forced labor. He received one charge of criminal enterprises — racketeering proceeds.
Geddert was also charged with sexually assaulting a teen in 2012. Geddert received a first degree charge of criminal sexual conduct and a second degree charge of criminal sexual conduct.
His final charge of lying to a peace officer — violent crime investigation, is linked to the Larry Nassar investigation.
John Geddert has ties to Larry Nassar
During Geddert's tenure as head coach, Nassar served as the team's doctor. Nassar was sentenced to 175 years in prison in 2018 after pleading guilty to seven counts of first-degree criminal sexual assault. A year earlier, Nassar was sentenced to a maximum of 60 years in prison for child pornography crimes.
Geddert is charged with lying to investigators for willingly providing them with false information. Geddert reportedly told investigators he was not aware of Nassar's crimes. It was alleged during Nassar's sentencing that Geddert was aware of at least one incident involving Nassar that took place in the late 1990s.
Geddert was suspended by USA Gymnastics in 2018. He retired that year, and turned over ownership of his gym to his wife.
