Former Tottenham defender Beniot Assou-Ekotto laughs off Harry Redknapp's porn star claims

Benoit Assou-Ekotto has laughed off Harry Redknapp's suggestion the former Tottenham defender wants to become a porn star.

Redknapp, in an interview with The Spurs Show podcast, claimed an agent offered Assou-Ekotto as a potential signing for Birmingham City only for a potential deal to be derailed by an alternative career move.

Assou-Ekotto has denied he plans to move into adult entertainment and questioned how such a claim could be believed.

"The craziest thing is that it’s been a fortnight [since the podcast was released], and it’s only coming out now," he told France Football. "A lady in England alerted me on Twitter at the time, it rather surprised me.

"From what I understood, Redknapp was asked about the players he would like to recruit. He talked about me, joked, and then moved on. I [had moved on] until it comes out in France, this weekend."

He added: "It made me laugh. But my mother discovered it this morning, Mother’s Day. She told me she would have preferred another gift.

"It was just a joke. What is absurd is that it has been taken seriously. As if I wanted to become a porn actor. It made me happy that [Redknapp] thought of me and said that he wanted me after no contact for three or four years.

"The joke didn’t bother me at all, it made me laugh. What bothers me is that people take everything so seriously. If he had said that I wanted to be a cosmonaut it would have made less noise!"
