Former Tennessee starting quarterback Quinten Dormady has found his new school. And he could be going from one quarterback competition to another.

Dormady announced Tuesday night that he was heading to Houston. He’s a graduate transfer so he’s eligible to play immediately in 2018.

Dormady opened the 2017 season as Tennessee’s starter after beating out Jarrett Guarantano for the starting job. He split reps with Guarantano in Tennessee’s blowout loss to Georgia and then Guarantano started the following week against South Carolina. The Vols announced in late October that Dormady would miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury and have surgery.

Guarantano got injured after he took over as the starter and Tennessee was forced to use Will McBride at quarterback near the end of the season. Dormady finished the year 76-137 passing for 925 yards and six touchdowns and six interceptions.

Houston’s quarterback situation looked fairly settled before Dormady’s transfer announcement. The team used three quarterbacks in 2017 but sophomore D’Eriq King ended the season as the team’s starter and was considered the presumptive starter heading into 2018.

King took over for Kyle Allen — a Texas A&M transfer who declared early for the 2018 NFL draft — and Kyle Postma. King threw 20 or more passes in each of Houston’s final five games, including the team’s bowl loss to Fresno State. King was 90-139 passing for 1260 yards and seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He was also an effective running threat with 72 carries for 379 yards and eight touchdowns while finishing the season as the team’s third-leading rusher.
