Former Devils' Goalie Akira Schmid Announces Engagement
Former New Jersey Devils' goalie Akira Schmid has recently announced his engagement. The 24-year-old Swiss native took to his Instagram to announce the exciting news.
Schmid spent parts of three seasons in the Devil's organization and had potential to be a reliable backup for the club going forward. Unfortunately, the Devils are looking to win the Stanley Cup and needed to upgrade at the goaltending position, which led to him being dealt at the 2024 NHL Draft.
Schmid and Alexander Holtz were traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Paul Cotter and a third-round pick in 2025.
At the time, he did not receive a qualifying offer (QO) from the Golden Knights, leaving him as an unrestricted free agent. However, he would later sign a two-year contract on July 3 with an AAV of $875,000.
Schmid and his fiancée will have a long run ahead while planning their wedding. But it looks like there is another wedding of interest amongst NHL players next summer.
