Yahoo Sports Ex-Bucs lineman Chris Hovan faces DUI, child neglect charges after police say he blew 0.31 with kid in car
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Chris Hovan faces DUI and child neglect charges after he was pulled over in Pinellas County (Florida) on Monday, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Hovan was pulled over and reportedly showed “signs of impairment,” the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office told the Times. Hovan was given a breathalyzer, and allegedly blew between a .309 and .315, more than three times the legal limit.
Hovan was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor DUI and a charge of felony child neglect for reportedly driving impaired with a child in the car. The child was reportedly in the passenger seat when Hovan was pulled over, according to deputies. The child was not injured.
Chris Hovan has history of troubling behavior
After being selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2000 draft, Hovan had a 10-year career in the NFL. He played five years in Minnesota, and joined the Buccaneers for his final five seasons.
Following his retirement in 2009, Hovan was involved in multiple troubling incidents. In 2015, Hovan was arrested on a DUI charge. In 2018, Hovan was ordered to stay away from his family due to domestic violence allegations.
Hovan was released from Pinellas County jail Tuesday after posting bail.
