Antetokounmpo leads Bucks to rout of Raptors in Game 2

The Milwaukee Bucks cruised to a 125-103 victory over the Toronto Raptors, taking a commanding 2-0 series lead.

Here’s how Game 2 unfolded.

4th quarter

The result was never really in doubt after the opening few minutes, and the Bucks now hold a 2-0 series lead. Bucks defeat Raptors 125-103.

Antetokounmpo is pulled from the game with 3:23 remaining and receives a standing ovation. It’s scary to think that he might have more in store as the series goes on. Antetokounmpo finishes the game with 30 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal. 115-92 Bucks

Siakam fouls out of the game after 26 minutes of action. He finishes with eight points and one rebound. 110-92 Bucks

Bledsoe steps into an open three, but Kawhi gets to the line on the next possession and hits both free throws. 105-89 Bucks

Powell continues to be one of the positives for the Raptors tonight, getting a quick bucket. Giannis gets an easy dunk on the next possession. Ibaka air-balls a short turnaround jumper, but Hill misses a three. Powell takes off for a dunk in transition, but Giannis just walks up to three-point line with not a defender in sight, takes his time and drains a three. 100-82 Bucks

3rd quarter

Eric Bledsoe hits a jumper but Jodie Meeks comes up with a heads-up play, hitting a running three in transition. By itself, this would be arguably the highlight of the night for the Raptors but it also serves to underscore how badly they’ve been outplayed. Still, the Raptors outscored the Bucks 38-31 in the third and will need another valiant effort if they are to win Game 2. 95-78 Bucks

Powell is injecting the Raptors with life off the bench, hitting another three. However, Antetokounmpo gets the line on the next possession, easily drawing a foul and completes both free throws. 93-75 Bucks

Brodgon gets an easy bucket, and after a Raptors’ miss, Ibaka is called for goaltending after swatting a Hill attempt into the stands. Hill gets another layup and the Bucks’ crowd is back in full force. 89-70 Bucks

Leonard gets his third foul of the game, trying and failing to stop Lopez inside the pain in vein. Lopez gets the bucket and ensuing free throw to fall. After Pat Connaughton bricks a three-point attempt, Fred VanVleet responds with a three of his own. Antetokounmpo turns the ball over with an errant pass, and though it’s too early to call it a comeback, the Raptors finally have shown signs of life. 83-70 Bucks

Powell takes off in transition and gets a contested layup to fall. After Powell defends Middleton perfectly and forces a bad shot, Kawhi forces another and-1 opportunity for himself, and hits the free throw. 78-63 Bucks

As if on cue, Antetokounmpo responds with a dunk, then goes to the line, misses his first free throw, but hits the second. On the next possession, Lowry bails the Raptors out of a poor sequence with a fadeaway three. 75-58 Bucks

Leonard hits a high-arching shot off the glass, but Middleton stops the 7-0 Raptors run almost instantly. Kawhi remains undeterred however, and completes the and-1 opportunity after an aggressive drive. It might make sense to run the offence exclusively through him. 72-54 Bucks

Leonard gets a key offensive rebound, puts the ball back up and gets an and-1 opportunity, sinking the free throw. However, all good will is lost as Siakam gets his fifth foul after impeding a Lopez drive to the rim. Bledsoe sidesteps Lowry for his first bucket of the game, but Green responds with a three. 70-47 Bucks

History repeats itself, as Antetokoumpo comes flying out of the gate, draws the and-1, hitting the free throw. Gasol misses an open three - he’s shooting 1-of-9 - but after the Bucks miss on their next possession, Siakam gets a bucket for the Raptors. 67-41 Bucks

2nd quarter

It’s the third-largest postseason deficit in Raptors history. Leonard led the Raptors with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, while Mirotic and Ilyasova lead all scorers with 15 points. Antetokounmpo, for what it’s worth, finishes the half with 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

Adding insult to injury, Lowry gets called for his fourth foul. Siakam also earns his third foul after nearly tackling Mirotic. The Bucks fail to get a shot off to end the half but it’s been suboptimal to say the least for the Raptors. 64-39 Bucks

Antetokoumpo catches a missed Mirotic three and lays it in for an easy bucket. Gasol misses a long two and Lowry earns his third foul after crashing into Lopez. Lopez connects on both free throws and the Bucks have their largest lead of the game. 61-38 Bucks

Mirotic hits another three and after the Raptors fail to score inside, Hill darts around a Lopez screen for an easy layup. Nurse is upset with the referees after Lopez clearly interferes with Gasol, but no foul is called, and the Bucks are cruising. 57-36 Bucks

Ilyasova continues to be the man of the hour, getting to the line and hits one of two free throws. He’s leading all scorers with 15 points coming off the bench. 52-34 Bucks

Ilyasova goes off the window for a bucket, but Lowry responds by nailing a jumper over Ilyasova’s outstretched hands. After a few missed shots from both teams, Ilyasova comes up big again, taking advantage of some poor passing from the Raptors for another bucket. Brogdon and Leonard trade threes, but Ilyasova continues his massive second quarter with another three. 51-32 Bucks

Ibaka is quickly getting involved in the game, with two buckets in the second, but hasn’t received much support. On both buckets, Ilyasova responds in turn. Leonard draws his second foul and Nick Nurse doesn’t appear to be all too impressed with the referees at the timeout. 41-27 Bucks

After trading a series of misses, Powell drains a jumper. Hill air-balls a three, but Antetokoumpo and Middleton return from the bench, as does Leonard. 35-23 Bucks

1st quarter

Norman Powell hits a much-needed three to stop the bleeding, and Mirotic misses a three on the next possession. Trailing by 14, Kyle Lowry misses an open three and the buzzer sounds. The Raptors are getting beat in every facet of the game and couldn’t take advantage of the non-Antetokounmpo minutes. 35-21 Bucks

The Bucks are on a 12-0 run, led by Malcolm Brogdon, who is heating up with consecutive threes. George Hill flies to the rim in transition, gets a layup, and the Raptors call timeout. The Bucks’ home crowd is on their feet and for good reason, running the Raptors off the floor. 33-15 Bucks

Gasol gets his first field goal, but Middleton responds with a long two after his foot was on the three-point line. Antetokounmpo is playing like a leading MVP candidate early on and nails both free throws after drawing contact near the rim. He’s imposing his will on the game and the Raptors don’t have an answer. Luckily, he takes a seat on the bench with 2:57 remaining in the first. 25-15 Bucks

Ersan Ilyasova nails an open three, and on the ensuing possession, Gasol throws a wild pass that appears to hit the underside of the rim. Antetokounmpo immediately capitalizes on the error with a dunk, and the Bucks have quelled the Raptors’ momentum. 19-9 Bucks

Danny Green gets the Raptors on the board with a three, but the Bucks respond immediately with a Mirotic runner in the lane. After Green misses a bucket, Middleton drains an open three. Pascal Siakam responds with a quick bucket, then Kawhi converts on a turnover in transition. 14-7 Bucks

The Raptors - Gasol in particular - can’t get anything going offensively. Nikola Mirotic hits a three on the ensuing possession and Nick Nurse finally calls a timeout. A nightmare start for the Raptors. 9-0 Bucks

Giannis immediately drives to the rim, and follows up his own rebound with a dunk, that gets the home crowd going early. After Marc Gasol posts up Khris Middleton, Antetokounmpo comes flying out of nowhere for a monster block. No wonder why he was named a finalist for both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.

Giannis gets another easy bucket, and the Raptors turn the ball over again. 4-0 Bucks

If pre-game is any indication, Kawhi Leonard could be in for a huge night.
