Flyers' Voracek lands vicious knee-on-knee to Penguins' Ruhwedel

The Broad Street Bullies sure are living up to their namesake, aren’t they?

Late in the first period of Tuesday’s matchup between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers, tempers flared when Penguins defenceman Chad Ruhwedel wound up on the receiving end of a questionable knee-on-knee hit from Flyers forward Jakub Voracek.

The incident, of course, was not taken kindly by either side.

Despite the play only garnering a two-minute minor for tripping, Ruhwedel was forced to leave the ice visibly limping, with the 29-year-old heading straight past the bench and down the tunnel to be further evaluated. He had not returned to the game at time of publication.

Was Voracek’s knee extension intentional? We’ll let you decide.

Regardless of who the real culprit of this crime is, there’s a good chance the NHL’s Department of Player Safety will be taking a long look at whether it warrants any further discipline.
