Flyers' Lindblom in for Game 6 after battle with bone cancer

Inspiration will be on the side of the Philadelphia Flyers in their must-win Game 6 versus the New York Islanders on Thursday night.

Philadelphia’s Oskar Lindblom will return to the lineup for the first time in almost nine months after he was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer following his last appearance in an NHL game back on Dec. 7.

Lindblom completed his treatment earlier this summer, ringing the bell on the July 2, and has been working hard to put himself in a position to return to the club’s lineup ever since. He took warmups last Sunday prior to Game 4, but was not included in Alain Vigneault’s lineup. Now he’s receiving the nod with Sean Couturier and Joel Farabee out for the Flyers.

Lindblom’s teammate, Kevin Hayes, said this about Lindblom’s appearance in warmup last Sunday, and his road back to the NHL, via Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“I had chills watching him skate around the ice. I’m sure he was feeling pretty emotional as well. To see what he gone through on a day-to-day basis, and then seeing him every once in a while throughout the season, it’s incredible. To see where he’s at right now, it’s inspiring.”

A finalist for the Masterton Trophy, Lindblom scored 11 goals and had 18 points in 30 games before receiving his diagnosis.

Lindblom will start on a line with Derek Grant and Tyler Pitlick.
