Florida Atlantic quarterback Jason Driskel won’t be back with the team in 2018.

Driskel announced Thursday that he’ll be ending his playing career. He graduates in May.

“After a lot of thinking, talking with my friends and family, and payer, I have made the decision to end my college football career,” Driskel wrote. “It was always a dream of mine to play quarterback at the FBS level and I’m proud of accomplishing that goal. It has never been a dream of mine; however, to play football beyond college and with that in mind I used the other gifts that God has blessed me with to pursue a Civil Engineering degree which I will complete in May.”

Driskel was FAU’s primary quarterback in 2017 as the Owls finished 11-3 and won the Boca Raton Bowl. He was 185-278 passing for 2,2247 yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions and also rushed for 427 yards and eight touchdowns. While he threw for fewer yards in 2017 than he did in 2016, Driskel’s yards per attempt increased, his completion percentage increased and he threw six more touchdowns and seven fewer interceptions.

FAU’s new quarterback in 2018 will probably be either Chris Robison or De’Andre Johnson. Robison is a transfer from Oklahoma and was dismissed from the team in August for a violation of team rules. He was a four-star signee in the class of 2017. Johnson missed the entire 2017 season because of blood clots. He transferred to FAU after transferring from East Mississippi Community College.

Johnson transferred to the community college after he was dismissed from Florida State in 2015 after punching a woman at a bar.
