First betting odds set for South Carolina’s SEC game at No. 1 Georgia
South Carolina opened as 26-point underdogs against No. 1 Georgia, according to CircaSports.
The Gamecocks (1-1) play their first conference game against the Bulldogs in Athens, Georgia at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (CBS).
SEC rival South Carolina will be the first Power Five opponent No. 1 Georgia (2-0) has playedthis season. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is 6-1 against USC since taking over as head coach, with the one loss coming to a Will Muschamp-coached Gamecocks team in double overtime in 2019.
South Carolina plays its first true road game against the reigning national champions. This also marks the first of six straight conference games for the Gamecocks, two of which are in the AP Top 25.
The Gamecocks haven’t defeated the Bulldogs in the Shane Beamer era. Since USC upset Georgia in 2019, they’ve lost to Bulldogs by 29, 27 and 41 points.
The opening line is higher than expected for the first conference game for both teams, likely impacted from South Carolina losing Week 1 to UNC and playing an FCS opponent in Week 2. USC defeated its last opponent, Furman, 47-21 at home in Week 2. Georgia has wins of 48-7 (UT Martin) and 45-3 (Ball State).
Georgia leads the all-time series 54-19-2, including wins in the last three meetings.
