Felix Hernandez celebrated Father's Day by catching a first pitch from his son

Felix Hernandez’s son Jeremy has a reputation for taking after his dad. After spending time around the Seattle Mariners’ clubhouse for a few years, it seems Jeremy has picked up a few things from his father and some of his teammates.

Jeremy showed off those skills yet again on Father’s Day, throwing out the first pitch to his dad prior to the start of the M’s game.

How did he do?

He was awesome. Jeremy — who has grown quite a bit over the years — stood just in front of the rubber and fired a strike to his dad at home plate. Jeremy came out in full uniform and showed off his delivery from the stretch. He was a natural.

He’s done this before

That should come as no surprise to people who follow the Mariners. It’s not the first time Jeremy has impressed M’s fans with his skills. He threw out a first pitch at a game in 2015, and then showed off his arm at spring training in 2016. Jeremy’s spring training performance had some fans calling for the Mariners to sign him.

What happened after the pitch?

Jeremy met his dad at home plate and they performed their own secret handshake.

What’s next for Jeremy?

If Jeremy is to follow in his dad’s footsteps and play in the majors, don’t expect him to be a pitcher. Felix Hernandez told Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times that Jeremy loves to hit.

He’s got a long way to go before that becomes a reality. Then again, based on how he’s going, we expect Jeremy to be hitting home runs during batting practice at Safeco Field as soon as next season.
