Darryl Rudolph, the father of former Florida State wide receiver Travis Rudolph was killed over the weekend in an accidental shooting. He was 55 years old.

In a news release, the Palm Beach County Sherrif’s Office said Rudolph was shot in the “back/neck area” in a storage room of a West Palm Beach club, where he was making repairs at 9:25 a.m. Police say the accidental shot came from another room and an investigation is ongoing.

From Warchant.com:

The incident occurred at 9:25 a.m. Friday at Sugar D’s Cabaret in West Palm Beach, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. The elder Rudolph, 55, was found inside a back storage room of the club with a gunshot wound in the back/neck area. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

PBSO’s investigation determined Darryl Rudolph was repairing items at the club when the gunshot came from an adjacent room where one of the club’s workers was moving a firearm from a shelf. Authorities said the shooting was not intentional and the investigation is still active and ongoing.

Travis Rudolph decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft after his junior year with the Seminoles. In three seasons, he caught 153 passes for 2,311 yards and 18 touchdowns. In 2016, Rudolph totaled 56 receptions for 840 yards and seven scores. He is a projected late-round selection in this week’s NFL draft.

He made national headlines in August for an act of generosity. During a visit to a Tallahassee middle school, Rudolph noticed a student, Bo Paske, eating by himself, so he stopped and ate lunch with him. Paske’s mother shared a photo of Rudolph eating lunch with her son, who has autism, and it quickly went viral.

The two became fast friends and Rudolph was able to invite Paske and his mom to an FSU game.
