England hammered Scotland in their first Euro 2017 game but Fara Williams believes they will be even more powerful against Spain.

Mark Sampson ran out 6-0 winners in their opening game but the competition steps up on Sunday when they face a side also seeking to top Group D after their 2-0 victory against Portugal. Arsenal midfielder Williams says the squad are not daunted.

“I think you will see us put in a more dominant performance against Spain on Sunday,” she said. “They are second favourites to come out of the group and we played them in a friendly recently [a 2-1 win in October] and learned a lot.

“It was a game of two halves, in the first we dominated and did not give them much but we took our foot off the gas in the second half. You can’t allow a technical team like Spain time but we have made a lot of strides since then.

“The physical attributes we have are too far ahead of the Spanish, I like to think on Sunday you will see that again. I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves but I certainly think you will see something similar in the performance against the Spanish.

“As long as we are together as a group in the camp, the outside world will start believing with us and against Scotland we started to turn as few heads.”

Sampson is likely to name the same team that started on Wednesday, meaning Barcelona-bound striker Toni Duggan will be on the bench despite her late goal against Scotland.
