Fan falls over wall before NY Mets game, hurts arm

The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) -- A baseball fan injured his arm Saturday when he fell over a railing above an outfield wall before a game at the New York Mets' stadium

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jarrett Parker says his team was taking batting practice at Citi Field when he saw the man fall near him onto the warning track in left field.

Parker says he saw a bone protruding from the man's arm.

The fan was identified by friends as Nick Gambacorta, and they said he was in his 30s. Joseph Piacentino III told The Associated Press that Gambacorta was on outing with local bus operators, supervisors and their families.

Piacentino says he was standing in the area called the party deck behind the 8-foot wall, one person away as Gambacorta leaned over the railing. Piacentino said Gambacorta was trying to get the attention of a Giants player who had just caught a flyball.

Piacentino said Gambacorta tried stopping his fall by grabbing the railing with his right hand as he went over the waist-high railing. The twisting motion broke his arm, Piacentino and Parker said.

''There was blood all over his arm,'' Piacentino said.

Security and medical staff attended to Gambacorta on the warning track in left field. They placed him on a backboard then put him on a stretcher before wheeling him though a gate in the left-field wall.

The Mets released a statement saying a fan fell from the stands and was taken to a hospital. The team didn't provide additional details.

Parker didn't play in the game. He was sent to Triple-A before the first pitch.
