Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez Rematch Booked for Year's End

The UFC 207: Nunes vs. Rousey fight card has been growing fast this week, but got its biggest addition yet on Thursday.

Two former UFC heavyweight championship will square off at UFC 207, as Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez will rematch on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas. UFC officials announced the bout.

Werdum and Velasquez first met at UFC 188 in June of 2015. At that point, Velasquez held the heavyweight championship, but struggled in the high altitude in Mexico City. Taking him midway into the fight, Werdum submitted Velasquez to become the new titleholder.

Werdum (21-6-1) lost the belt in his next fight. Current champ Stipe Miocic knocked him out in the first round of UFC 198 in May of this year. Werdum rebounded with a dominant decision win over Travis Browne at UFC 203 in September.

Velasquez (14-2) has fought only once since losing the belt. He also defeated Browne, stopping him via strikes late in the first round of their bout at UFC 200 in July.

Ronda Rousey returns in the UFC 207 main event to challenge current women's bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in the special Friday event at T-Mobile Arena.

UFC officials have yet to determine if Werdum vs. Velasquez will be the UFC 207 co-main event.
