Exclusive: Coronation Street star Tanisha Gorey responds to surprise fling story

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Tanisha Gorey has spoken about the upcoming fling storyline that will cause trouble for the Alahan family.

Tanisha's character Asha may be in for a shock later this year as her twin brother Aadi starts an affair with an older woman.

Corrie bosses recently announced the casting of former Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis as Courtney Vance, who'll set her sights on Aadi this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the British Soap Awards 2023, Tanisha hinted that Asha won't be happy with her sibling's choice of romantic partner.

She laughed: "I don't think Asha will be very pleased, given the circumstances! There's a bit of an issue with the age, as we all know.

"But we do know that Asha loves her brother. She does want to look out for him and make sure he's okay."

Asked whether she has shared any scenes with Stephanie yet, Tanisha replied: "I haven't, no, but we have met! She's absolutely gorgeous. Honestly, she's such a lovely person."

When Aadi's new storyline was announced last month, it was revealed that Courtney is the glamourous wife of Dev Alahan's business associate Darren, who's played by The Archers actor Ryan Early.

Aadi, who turned 18 at the start of the year, will find himself caught up in a web of deceit as bored Courtney decides that she wants a toyboy.

Asked about Asha's own future, Tanisha told Digital Spy: "I can tease that she's starting university in September, which may or may not cause a bit of a whirlwhind to do with that, so we'll see!

"When they told me that Asha wanted to study to become a paramedic, I was so excited. I think it's an amazing thing for her to get involved in. It's such an aspiring career and it's so nice that we're going down that path with her.

"A lot of young people watch the show now and I get so many messages, especially about Asha and Nina.

"So I think it's really great that we are looking at that and we are broadening the horizons for her."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
