Exclusive: Aston Villa now showing interest in striker Chelsea are keen on

Aston Villa are now showing interest in one player who Chelsea are also keen on and have been linked with recently, which could spark Blues to make their move.

With the Euros on at the moment, it’s making it a bit difficult for clubs to get transfer business done if said players are away at the competition.

And this is very much the case for Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who is reportedly looking to leave his club this window.

Chelsea’s interest in Toney has largely been played down, but it is still there. That is according to our resident insider Simon Phillips writing on his Substack site this morning.

Phillips says that Chelsea do still hold an interest in Toney, and he was even discussed internally as a potential transfer option this summer by the recruitment team at the club just last week.

Interest in Toney picking up again

Chelsea might need to push on if they are to try and sign Toney this window, and that is because other clubs are now interested in the striker who is currently out at Germany making a real impact for England at the Euros.

Phillips says: “Chelsea are pondering opportunities and waiting and looking at chances to bring the right striker in. They also want to sell Armando Broja and Romelu Lukaku first before going all out on the new striker.

“Toney remains an option for The Blues.

“However, if they want to move on Toney then they might want to step that up, and that is because Aston Villa are now looking at Toney as an option for them this summer, as they are waiting to sell Jhon Duran, confirm SPTC sources.

“Toney is expected to be available for £40m this summer.”

Chelsea should go for Toney, he is a perfect option.
