The former Tennessee State player who was expelled from school for punching one of his coaches has been arrested.

According to The Tennessean, Latrelle Lee is now facing a felony assault charge after repeatedly punching TSU strength coach T.J. Greenstone during a game against Southeast Missouri on Nov. 11. Lee, 22, was kicked off the team and expelled from school after the incident, which was caught on video.

During games, Greenstone, like many strength coaches around the country, is responsible for keeping players and coaches on the sideline from standing too close to the field. If players or coaches encroach on the playing surface, the team could be penalized.

Greenstone can be seen in the video telling Lee and other players to move back before Lee punches him several times in the head. Greenstone then fell to the turf before stumbling to his feet.

As a result, Lee has been formally charged with “aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.” He was booked Monday night and subsequently posted bond.

The arrest affidavit says Greenstone has been having “medical difficulties” in the time since the attack.

From The Tennessean:

“Once struck about the face by the defendant, the victim fell to the ground and was dazed and somewhat unconscious from the punches,” according to an arrest affidavit. “The victim has subsequently been having medical difficulties as a result from the altercation.”

The Southeast Missouri game was the final home game of Lee’s career. Before his dismissal, the senior defensive end appeared in 36 games at Tennessee State, including 17 starts. In nine games (two starts) this season, he totaled 18 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss. For his career, Lee compiled 77 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks.

Greenstone, a former Vanderbilt player, was named TSU’s Coordinator of Strength and Conditioning in August 2016 after two previous years at the school as a strength assistant.

TSU finished its season with a 6-5 record after losing the season finale on Nov. 16 on the road against Jacksonville State.
