Wojciech Szczęsny has decided to retire from the sport at 34 years of age.

The former Roma shot-stopper after spending the last six years at Juventus and representing Poland’s national team.

“I gave 18 years of my life to the game, every day, without excuses,” wrote Szczęsny on Instagram.

“Today my body still feels ready for challenges, my heart is no longer there. I feel that right now the time has come to dedicate all my attention to my family – my fantastic wife Marina and our two beautiful children Liam and Noelia.”

“Therefore I have decided to retire from professional football,” he concluded.

In two years at Roma, between 2015 and 2017, the Polish goal-keeper collected 81 appearances, maintaining 23 clean sheets.
