Derrius Guice is the newest member of Top Dawg Entertainment.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Top Dawg Entertainment is the record label and representation for hip-hop stars like Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q. Now, Guice, the former LSU running back, is the first athlete to join the organization. ESPN’s Darren Rovell broke the news Friday, saying TDE is “opening up a sports division” with Guice as its first client. Longtime agent Fadde Mikhail will represent Guice in both “contract and marketing.”

“They were the first guys who came to me, just like LSU was the first school to offer me a scholarship,” Guice explained to Rovell. “I didn’t forget that.”

Guice rushed for 1,251 yards and 11 touchdowns this season after putting up 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2016. Guice finished his LSU career with 3,074 yards and 29 touchdowns over his three seasons with the program. He was one of 106 underclassmen to be granted special eligibility by the NFL to enter the 2018 draft.

Though he is TDE’s first client in athletics, Guice isn’t the first to sign with an agency more known for its association with the music world. Roc Nation Sports, founded by Jay-Z, represents NFL players like Dez Bryant, Todd Gurley and Leonard Fournette, Guice’s former LSU teammate. Penn State’s Saquon Barkley, considered to be the top running back available in the 2018 draft, signed with Roc Nation earlier this month.
