Follow live reaction as Everton came from two goals down at half-time to beat Crystal Palace and secure their Premier League safety at a raucous Goodison Park.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 85th minute winner rescued Frank Lampard’s side and sparked a pitch invasion from the home supporters, after goals from Michael Keane and Richarlison pulled them level.

At half-time, and with Burnley leading Aston Villa, Everton were facing the possibility of needing to go to Arsenal on the final day of the season and getting a result.

Despite making a positive start in what was a noisy atmosphere at Goodison Park, the visitors took the lead when Jean-Philippe Mateta was allowed space to score a free header from Eberechi Eze’s free-kick.

It went from bad to worse for Everton as Jordan Ayew, who was fortunate to escape a red card for a high challenge on Anthony Gordon, punished a series of defensive mistakes to double Palace’s lead.

Michael Keane got one back after half-time to spark the comeback, and Richarlison equalised with 15 minutes of normal time remaining with a scrambled finish. But Calvert-Lewin’s header was greeted by wild scenes - which continued at full-time as the Toffees celebrated staying in the Premier League.

As scrappy as you will ever see, but Everton are level.

Everton 1-2 Crystal Palace

21:11 , Dylan Terry

65 mins: GOOD SAVE FROM PICKFORD.

Everton 1-2 Crystal Palace

21:09 , Dylan Terry

GOAL! Everton 1-2 Crystal Palace (Keane, 55)

21:01 , Dylan Terry

55 mins: GAME ON!

Everton launch a high ball into the penalty area from a free-kick on the halfway line. Holgate nods it back down for Keane and he controls it before rifling a volley into the far corner.

What a finish from the centre-half!

Suddenly Goodison Park is alive and kicking!

Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

21:00 , Dylan Terry

54 mins: Alli has looked frustrated since coming on. He looks a yard or two off the pace - which is understandable given the lack of football he has had.

Schlupp knocks the ball down the line and is body checked by the former Tottenham man.

Everton do win it back after the free-kick but Doucoure then plays a square pass straight to a Palace shirt.

More groans from the Goodison faithful.

Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

20:57 , Dylan Terry

51 mins: There’s the warning from Palace though.

Zaha slides a lovely ball into the area for Schlupp. He pulls it back for Ayew and Holgate is across well to thump it behind for a corner. The subsequent corner is cleared at the front post, but Palace remain a real threat when they come forward.

And that’s wonderful play from Eze! He dribbles past one, two, three Everton players and goes down in the area but Anthony Taylor is unmoved.

He was so, so close to pulling the trigger there. Think he lost his footing more than anything. Would have been a worldie.

Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

20:55 , Dylan Terry

49 mins: Good start to the second half from Everton!

Iwobi plays an incisive pass into Gordon. He dummies it for Coleman who fizzes a low cross into the middle but it misses all the Everton attackers in the middle.

Definitely more urgency to the hosts’ play already. But can they make it count?

From one wing-back to another, and Chelsea are level. Reece James flights a lovely angled pass to the back post where Marcos Alonso arrives to volley Chelsea all square.

HT: Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

20:36 , Dylan Terry

That’s half-time. It’s been a nightmare 45 minutes for Everton.

Goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Andre Ayew have given Crystal Palace a 2-0 lead at the break.

Everton have been utterly woeful since the opening quarter of an hour.

So much work for Frank Lampard to do in his half-time team talk.

One-way traffic.

Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

20:34 , Dylan Terry

45+3 mins: Pickford launches a long ball up to Calvert-Lewin who climbs well and nods it down but Mitchell is in front of Gordon to clear.

Palace look so comfortable when the ball is worked into their final third.

There’s a handball appeal. Mykolenko sends a cross in and it hits Schlupp’s leg and onto his arm. Would have been incredibly harsh. No chance it’s given by VAR.

Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

20:33 , Dylan Terry

45+2 mins: Four minutes of stoppage time at the end of the first half.

Hughes is hauled back by Gomes on the halfway line and Palace win another free-kick. Everton have been guilty of that far too often in this 45 minutes of football.

The Toffees have now conceded 61 goals in 37 games this season. Simply not good enough.

Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

20:32 , Jamie Braidwood

NIck Pope is keeping Burnley in it at Villa Park. A stunning save to deny a rising John McGinn volley is the latest example in a fine series of stops. It remains goalless with 30 minutes played.

Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

20:31 , Dylan Terry

45 mins: Decent move from Everton. Their first in the last half an hour.

It’s worked out nicely to Mykolenko who sends a dangerous cross into the middle and Richarlison is falling backwards but still manages to get a header goalwards which loops narrowly over the top.

Better from the hosts but they are still a way off getting back into this one.

Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

20:29 , Dylan Terry

43 mins: Everton are given the opportunity to break as Guehi plays a slack pass to Gordon. The young winger sprints onto it but Mitchell is back superbly to take the ball off him on the edge of the area. Great defending.

Everton look to send the ball long up to Calvert-Lewin but he can’t keep it and Palace easily win possession back.

No sign of an Everton comeback. They need half-time.

Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

20:26 , Dylan Terry

40 mins: It has been total one-way traffic since the opening 10 minutes or so. Palace have utterly dominated Everton at Goodison Park.

Alex Iwobi has come from the left into central midfield as the hosts look to get control of the game.

Gomes tries his luck from the edge of the area but Butland gets down smartly to save and hold onto the ball.

Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace

20:25 , Dylan Terry

38 mins: Frank Lampard looked absolutely crestfallen when that second goal went in.

Everton now need three goals if they are going to avoid a relegation battle on the final day.

GOAL! Everton 0-2 Crystal Palace (Ayew, 36)

20:22 , Dylan Terry

36 mins: IT’S ALL GOING WRONG FOR EVERTON!

Moments after Ayew could have been sent off he makes it 2-0! Coleman slips and Palace break.

It’s cut back into the penalty area and when the initial effort is saved by Pickford it falls for Ayew who bundles the ball over from close range.

Everton 0-1 Crystal Palace

20:21 , Dylan Terry

35 mins: YELLOW! The game is becoming a bit heated now. It’s another caution for Palace and this time it’s Ayew who horribly takes out Gordon. There’s a scissor motion in there and it’s over the top of the ball.

VAR says a yellow is fine. Think he has got away with one there.

Everton 0-1 Crystal Palace

20:19 , Dylan Terry

34 mins: Zaha is looking extremely lively now. He slips a couple of challenges in the middle of the pitch and lays it off to Schlupp but the move then breaks down.

YELLOW! Hughes takes out Gordon and the Palace midfielder is the first player of the evening to receive a caution from Anthony Taylor.

Another opportunity for Gordon to deliver a free-kick into the penalty area...headed clear with very little trouble once more.

Everton 0-1 Crystal Palace

20:17 , Dylan Terry

32 mins: It’s all Crystal Palace now. Everton are giving the ball away at will.

Hughes tries a dinked cross in towards Eze which Keane intercepts but Palace have it back in an instant.

Ayew slides Clyne in down the right and his low cross is collected by Pickford.

Everton then try to counter but Richarlison’s tame effort is comfortable for Butland.

Everton 0-1 Crystal Palace

20:15 , Dylan Terry

30 mins: Lovely play from Palace. Zaha works it out to Mitchell and he sends a wonderful cross in for Mateta but Holgate gets their in the nick of time in front of the Palace man to prevent what surely would have been a second goal.

Everton are living on the edge. You feel a two-goal cushion for Palace could be game over already.

Goodison Park is furious.

Everton 0-1 Crystal Palace

20:14 , Dylan Terry

28 mins: Decent opportunity for Everton.

They work it well from right to left. Gordon eventually sends the cross in beyond Richarlison and Mykolenko is flying in at the back post but shanks his effort wide.

Everton are going to have to be more prolific than that in front of goal because Palace look potent in the final third.

Everton 0-1 Crystal Palace

20:12 , Dylan Terry

26 mins: Everton give the ball away again inside their own half and the first few noticeable groans are beginning to echo out around Goodison Park.

Palace playing some delightful stuff now as Zaha, Mateta and Eze link up deliciously in the middle of the park before Ayew’s cross is cleared.

Frustration on Merseyside.

Everton 0-1 Crystal Palace

20:10 , Dylan Terry

24 mins: How do Everton respond to that? Goodison Park has been stunned into silence.

Crystal Palace have their tails up now. They sense blood among these nervous Everton players.

It was a positive start from the hosts but nothing came from it and now Palace are in front.

GOAL! Chelsea 0-1 Leicester (Maddison 9’)

20:08 , Jamie Braidwood

A screamer from James Maddison has shocked Chelsea at Stamford Bridge!

It comes from a long clearance downfield from Leicester and Maddison is allowed space on the edge of the box.

He loves a long-range strike.

GOAL! Everton 0-1 Crystal Palace (Mateta, 22)

20:08 , Dylan Terry

22 mins: PALACE TAKE THE LEAD FROM THE SET-PIECE!

It’s the easiest goal you will ever see. Eze whips the free-kick into the penalty area and Mateta - who is totally unmarked - nods home from six yards.

Simple stuff. Nightmare for Everton.

Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

20:07 , Dylan Terry

21 mins: Palace again try to take the sting out of the game as they spend a minute or so knocking the ball around the back line. Smart stuff from the visitors who will not want this Goodison Park crowd to get more involved than they already have.

Everton eventually win it back but Gordon’s poor control then immediately gifts a throw-in to Palace.

And here’s a free-kick for the visitors as Schlupp goes down on the far touchline midway inside the Everton half.

Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

20:04 , Dylan Terry

18 mins: OFF THE BAR! Richarlison steps up and bends one towards the top corner. Butland gets a fingertip to it and takes it onto the top of the crossbar!

Wonderful save from the Palace keeper. He doesn’t get any credit from the referee though as he signals for a goal kick!

So close from Richarlison.

Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

20:01 , Dylan Terry

16 mins: Zaha skips away from Iwobi and slides a dangerous pass into Mateta but Holgate does well to put his body in between the ball and the Palace striker to shepherd it out of play.

Another long ball is then hurled up to Calvert-Lewin. He flicks it on for Richarlison and Andersen opts to bundle over the Brazilian on the edge of the area.

Chance for an Everton player to have an effort on goal here.

Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

19:59 , Dylan Terry

14 mins: Richarlison does well to flick a high ball onto Gordon but the young Evertonian can’t find any space through a trio of Palace shirts on the edge of the area.

The home side have undoubtedly been the brighter but you would say Palace do look the more defensively organised. They also look as if they will need far fewer attacks to find the back of the net.

Nathaniel Clyne being booed, by the way. Ex-Liverpool.

Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

19:57 , Dylan Terry

12 mins: Everton back on the frontfoot as Mykolenko sends a dangerous ball into the box but no one is there to meet it.

Holgate then tries to find Gordon with a crossfield pass and gets too much on it as the Palace back line watch it drift out for a goal kick.

Palace then attempt a break as Zaha lays it off to Schlupp and he sprints down the left before cutting it back for Holgate to clear.

Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

19:54 , Dylan Terry

9 mins: Everton aren’t giving Palace a second on the ball at the moment. Exactly what the home fans would have wanted to see from the off.

Palace try to take the sting out of the hosts’ early momentum with a series of throw-ins.

Oh and there’s a half chance for the visitors out of nothing. A cross in from the left finds Ayew on the edge of the penalty area and he gets a good head on the ball but it’s always travelling over the bar.

Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

19:52 , Dylan Terry

6 mins: Palace struggling to get out of their own half in the early stages. They lump it up to Mateta but he can’t knock it onto Zaha and Everton come forward.

Richarlison’s cross deflects away for a corner but Gordon’s delivery is headed away at the front post.

Everton’s set-piece delivery has to be better tonight than it was against Brentford at the weekend.

Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

19:49 , Dylan Terry

3 mins: Brilliant atmosphere inside Goodison Park at the start of this one. The Crystal Palace players are receiving a chorus of boos every time they get a touch.

Richarlison goes down under pressure from Mitchell and the Everton fans want a free-kick in a dangerous position but nothing is given.

Vibrant start from the hosts.

Oh and an early altercation! Anthony Gordon and Wilfried Zaha come together after contesting the ball and Zaha pushes Gordon in the throat.

Not a red but unnecessary from the Palace man.

Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

19:47 , Dylan Terry

1 min: We are underway at Goodison Park!

Will Everton be safe in two hours’ time?

Everton vs Crystal Palace

How things look ahead of tonight’s games:

  • Everton (36pts): Crystal Palace (H), Arsenal (A)

  • Leeds (35pts): Brentford (A)

  • Burnley (34pts): Aston Villa (A), Newcastle (H)

Those points tallies could look very different in a couple of hours.

Kick-off at Goodison Park is next.

Everton vs Crystal Palace

19:40 , Dylan Terry

Right then! Kick-off is just around the corner at Goodison Park.

Reminder: A win tonight for Frank Lampard’s men would see them safe from Premier League relegation.

A draw or loss would send the battle to avoid the drop to the final day.

Buckle up.

Everton vs Crystal Palace

Frank Lampard on tonight’s huge game against Crystal Palace.

He said: “I have to thank our fans for their impact on the team, particularly in recent weeks. I’m sure they will come with everything again - and maybe a bit more. We really appreciate that.

“Historically, this could be such a big night for us. The players have to turn up to play with the same passion and fight as those in the stadium. We need 11 Evertonians on the pitch.

“They have to tap into the occasion. It’s a game that’s really critical, but they can use the pressure in a good way and play with control on top of that.

“We’re playing a game that we love, so we have to be up for those big-pressure moments. Everyone has to be ready.”

Everton vs Crystal Palace

19:35 , Dylan Terry

This was the scene when the Everton team bus arrived earlier tonight. You’d think this was a title decider!

You cannot fault the Toffees’ supporters (before) every match. They have got behind their side like no other.

With that said, if things begin to go wrong then the atmosphere can change very quickly inside Goodison Park.

That’s why it’s so important they get off to a good start against Palace.

Everton vs Crystal Palace

19:30 , Dylan Terry

So Michael Keane returns to the Everton starting line-up this evening. He comes in for the suspended Jarrad Branthwaite who was one of two players sent off in the defeat to Brentford.

Keane’s experience in relegation battles with Burnley could well prove vital against Crystal Palace tonight. We shall see.

Vieira to speak with Kouyate over Gueye support

19:25 , Dylan Terry

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has promised to seek talks with midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate over the reason behind his messages of support on social media to compatriot Idrissa Gueye.

Gueye has come under fire after he failed to feature in Paris St Germain’s 4-0 win over Montpellier on Saturday, which was the weekend Ligue 1 had chosen for its clubs to show solidarity ahead of International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia this week.

The French side wore rainbow-coloured numbers to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community but Gueye was absent for “personal reasons” having also missed the corresponding fixture last year.

Kouyate and fellow Senegal team-mate Ismaila Sarr have both sent messages of support to their international colleague after Gueye faced criticism and the Palace boss is eager to find out the “full facts” from his player.

Everton vs Crystal Palace

19:15 , Dylan Terry

A reminder that if Everton fail to win tonight then they will have to go to Arsenal on Sunday knowing their Premier League safety still hangs in the balance.

The Gunners will still be fighting for fourth place and hoping Spurs slip up against Norwich.

So tonight really is huge for Everton. It’s their last home game of the season but they shouldn’t need the crowd to tell them the magnitude of this match.

No need to go anywhere else this evening, by the way. I will be giving you live updates of Everton vs Crystal Palace as well as score updates from the two other games in the Premier League.

Aside from the pair of fixtures impacting the bottom of the table, Chelsea also host Leicester at Stamford Bridge at 8pm.

With respect to Thomas Tuchel’s side though, our focus will be on the battle to avoid the drop.

Everton vs Crystal Palace

19:00 , Dylan Terry

What about Crystal Palace?

Well, a victory for Patrick Vieira’s side this evening would see them leap up four places to ninth in the Premier League table.

Palace are just six points adrift of Wolves in eighth and have a superior goal difference to all of those around them.

So it’s all still to play for. The Eagles are by no means on the beach (not that you ever actually find eagles on the beach).

Lampard insists Everton are not a dirty team despite red-card woes

Frank Lampard has insisted Everton are not a dirty team, despite the club getting the most red cards in the Premier League during his reign.

“I just think you have to look at the red cards,” he said. Discussing the two dismissals against Brentford, he added: “The first red was a footballing error and the second was a bad foul. Salomon appreciates that. We have got red cards and I am not proud of that, but a lot of them have been footballing errors.

“I don't think Allan was a red against Newcastle because it is a lunge we see a lot. I saw one on the [Championship] play-off semi last night, yellow card offences. So that’s gone, but the other ones were double yellows where it is diving in and lunging when you don’t need to, it’s not a reckless tackle.

“They are footballing mistakes because at that point you should stay on your feet and stay away. On a football level if you are on a yellow, you don’t dive in, you don’t tug a shirt.”

Other Premier League games

If Everton fail to win tonight then there will be a lot of interest in what happens at Villa Park as Aston Villa host Burnley - with the match kicking off at 8pm, 15 minutes after the Toffees’ game.

A defeat for Everton and win for Burnley would mean the alarm bells will be ringing louder than ever at Goodison Park and Elland Road.

It goes without saying that Leeds supporters will be Crystal Palace and Aston Villa fans for the next few hours.

Relegation battle

So Everton sit two points above Burnley and one point above Leeds heading into tonight’s game against Crystal Palace.

A win tonight would clinch safety for Frank Lampard’s men, but anything other than that would send it to the final day.

Here is what’s to come over the next 72 hours.

  • Everton (36pts): Crystal Palace (H), Arsenal (A)

  • Leeds (35pts): Brentford (A)

  • Burnley (34pts): Aston Villa (A), Newcastle (H)

And here is how Palace are looking heading into their penultimate game of the season.

Crystal Palace will be missing Michael Olise after his recent knock, with the forward joining long-term absentee Nathan Ferguson on the injury list.

James McArthur‘s calf strain could also keep him sidelined but goalkeeper Vicente Guaita should be available for selection once more and goalscorer against Aston Villa, Jeffrey Schlupp, is pushing for a start with Eberechi Eze - who Vieira is being careful with after his own long-term injury - the most likely candidate to drop out.

Some early Everton team news for you.

Everton duo Jarrad Branthwaite and Salomon Rondon will serve suspensions after being sent off against Brentford, although Michael Keane is expected to have recovered from the illness that ruled him out of that game.

Nathan Patterson, Andros Townsend, Fabian Delph and Yerry Mina are all absent but Andre Gomes came through his first start since February against the Bees and may hold on to his place ahead of the likes of Donny van de Beek, Allan and Tom Davies.

Good evening

18:30 , Jamie Braidwood

Good evening and welcome to tonight’s live text coverage of the Premier League, as Everton host Crystal Palace and Burnley take on Aston Villa on what is a huge night in the relegation fight. Everton can secure their Premier League status with a victory at Goodison Park, as it would take them four points clear of Leeds United with just one game remaining, but anything less would leave Frank Lampard’s side in grave danger with a trip to Arsenal to come on the final day of the season on Sunday.

Brentford’s 3-2 win at Goodison last weekend showed how unpredictable the survival fight can be, and Leeds and Burnley will for Patrick Vieira’s side can play their part. It is Burnley who occupy the final spot in the relegation zone, with Mike Jackson’s team sitting one point below Leeds, but if they were to avoid defeat at Villa Park their survival hopes would be back in their own hands. It would mean a victory against Newcastle at Turf Moor on the final day would be enough, regardless of how Leeds perform at Brentford.

It’s shaping up to be a thrilling last few days of the season at both ends of the table but tonight the focus is all about survival. Who can hold their nerve and boost their hopes ahead of the final day?
