Euro 2022 betting: Spain and England are the favorites to win the continental title

Spain and England are the favorites to play for the Euro 2022 title.

Both powerhouses are at +350 at BetMGM to win the women’s European title ahead of the competition kicking off Wednesday afternoon. England is hosting the tournament and gets it started at 3 p.m. ET against Austria.

You can make a case for the English women as slight favorites after Spain got some terrible news on Tuesday. Alexia Putellas suffered a torn left ACL in training ahead of the Euros and will miss the entire tournament.

Putellas won the Ballon d’Or as the best player in women’s soccer and was also named FIFA’s Best Women’s Player. She scored 11 goals in the Champions League and also scored 18 goals in the Spanish Primera Division for Barcelona. The Barcelona women’s team was the most dominant team of the year even though it failed to win the Champions League after losing to Lyon in the final.

After Spain and England, four other squads have odds at +750 or better to win the title. The Netherlands and France are tied as No. 3 favorites at +550 to win while Sweden is at +650 and Germany is at +750. There’s a big gap between the top six teams and the 10 other teams in the tournament. Norway is the No. 7 favorite at +1600.

France appears to have gotten the easiest group draw of the top teams. The French are a staggering -2500 to advance out of their group and -500 to win it.

Here’s a quick look at the odds available at BetMGM ahead of the tournament. The tournament format is four groups of four in the group stage and the top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The final will be held at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 31.
