The Miami Beach Bowl is getting a new owner and a new home.

The three-year-old bowl game — which was founded, owned and operated by the American Athletic Conference — has been acquired by ESPN Events, the league announced on Friday.

Although the AAC will remain a part of the bowl, the game will no longer be played in the state of Florida. ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reported that the game will likely be played in Frisco, Texas.

The bowl has been played at Marlins Park in Miami since its founding. Let the record show that Tulsa was the last Miami Beach Bowl winner as we know it, beating Central Michigan 55-10 behind quarterback Dane Evans.

“We are proud of the postseason opportunities that we have been able to provide to student-athletes through our founding of the Miami Beach Bowl, and we appreciate the relationships that we have built with the Miami Marlins, Marlins Park and the cities of Miami and Miami Beach,” AAC commissioner Mike Aresco said in a release. “This transfer makes sense on many levels. We are excited to enhance our overall relationship with ESPN and to continue our affiliation with the bowl.”

The AAC is 2-1 in the bowl, with USF falling to Western Kentucky in 2015 and Memphis topping BYU in 2014. That game had, um, quite the ending.
