Erling Haaland says it is “crazy” how good Jude Bellingham is after the England midfielder starred with a record-breaking performance for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

The 18-year-old also surprised Haaland off the pitch last night after the 2-1 win over Besiktas, giving Haaland a cheeky kiss as the striker was being interviewed on TV.

Bellingham was outstanding as he scored the opener in Turkey and set up Haaland for the Norway international’s ninth goal in six games this season.

Bellingham’s strike made him the youngest player to score in successive Champions League games, at 18 years and 78 days — just bettering Kylian Mbappe’s mark of 18 years and 85 days from March 2017. And he is also now the youngest Englishman to score an away Champions League goal.

Haaland — along with Paris Saint-Germain’s Mbappe — is the hottest young talent in world football but even he is bowled over by just how good Bellingham is.

He said: “Jude’s amazing. So he’s 18 and is three years younger than me. It’s crazy. What can I say? He’s amazing.”

Bellingham says he is loving life at Dortmund and that certainly showed last night with his performance both during the game and after when he gatecrashed Haaland’s interview.

It took 20 minutes for Bellingham to score as he took Thomas Meunier’s cross on his chest before firing the ball through goalkeeper Ersin Destanoglu’s legs. His previous previous Champions League goal came in the 2-1 quarter-final defeat by Manchester City in April,

For the rest of the first half, it was all Dortmund, though the visitors had to wait before Bellingham set up Haaland for the second just before the break. The midfielder moved past a defender by switching the ball from his right foot to his left before he picked out Haaland for an easy finish.

Besiktas, roared on by their passionate home support, gave Dortmund problems but only had a Francisco Montero consolation goal in stoppage time to show for their efforts.

Bellingham said: “It was a brilliant atmosphere. It was an honour to be able to play in front of so many fans again. But the most important thing is that we won.

“It was end to end, a little like in basketball. We were a bit more decisive and won the game. We’re very satisfied with our first games. It’s a lot of fun to win football matches with Borussia Dortmund. We need to continue in the same fashion.”
