Trump Fooled By Twitter Account Pretending To Be His Sister

President Donald Trump on Friday shared tweets praising him that he thought were from his sister — but were actually from a fake account.

Trump retweeted an article from conservative talk show host Wayne Dupree’s website, which appeared to buy that @thebettytrump was actually run by the president’s older sister, Elizabeth Trump Grau.

The tweets were gushingly positive about her brother, praising him for being the true winner of the election, and hailing him for fighting to overturn the results.

(Trump did not win the election; President-elect Joe Biden did.)

“This election inspired me to break my silence and speak out on behalf of my family,” one of the tweets read. “My brother Don won this election and will fight this to the very end. We’ve always been a family of fighters.”

Trump responded to the article about the tweets, writing, “Thank you Elizabeth! LOVE!”

The parody account, which first tweeted this week, has been suspended by Twitter for violating its policies against platform manipulation and spam.

The article Trump retweeted has been updated to say that the tweets were made by an “alleged sister.”

Whoever started the parody account also fessed up in a tweet on Friday. “I would have clarified sooner that I was a parody but I certainly didn’t anticipate Trump himself taking notice of the account!” @thebettytrump said.

The president’s eldest sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, is a retired federal judge who has publicly kept quiet about her brother. But in a series of audio clips released by her niece Mary Trump in August, she called her brother a liar with “no principles” whom you “can’t trust.”

Mary Trump released the clips, which were short segments of interviews with her aunt, following the publication of her book about her uncle, “Too Much and Never Enough.”
