Elias Pettersson sets Canucks rookie record

From the very beginning of the season it was clear that the Vancouver Canucks had found a special player in Elias Pettersson.

The 5th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft picked up five points in his first two NHL games, and more or less continued stacking up goals and assists non-stop throughout the rest of the season.

On Monday night, Pettersson picked up his 61st point of the season, etching his name atop the Canucks rookie record book and passing some elite company on the way to the top.

Any time you can pass Pavel Bure in anything you know you’ve had a pretty decent season. Pettersson’s assist on Markus Granlund’s goal crowned him as the highest scoring rookie in Canucks history, a feat made all the more impressive considering he missed 10 games with injuries and had a couple of dry spells along the way.

In a year that has made it fairly tough for Canucks fans to get genuinely excited about a whole lot, Pettersson’s nightly performances are a signal that a bright future might be closer than we think.
