Elias Pettersson becomes youngest player to score 10 goals in first 10 games

Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson is, how shall I say, an absolute weapon with a hockey puck on his stick.

The Canucks rookie has gotten off to a legendary start to his NHL career, riffling home a milestone marker against the Red Wings on Tuesday to become just the fifth player to score 10 times in their first 10 career contests since the 1918-19 season — and the youngest player ever to do so.

As par for the Pettersson course, the tally was just a laser-beam of a shot that tickled the cheese behind Jimmy Howard’s left shoulder during the first period of Tuesday’s clash in Detroit.

Here’s another look at this absolute cannon.

The insanely talented teenager is not only putting up an abundance of production with 16 points and a 1.6 point-per-game clip, but it’s the quality and creativity in his goals and helpers that have really thrust Pettersson into the daily hockey conversation.

Eye-popping assists like this one below have complimented his tremendous shot and goal-scoring ability.

And just a few days before that tasty off-the-backboard dish, the super rookie showed his willingness and ability to block shots, if needed, and an uncanny ability to finish off a breakaway within a span of five seconds with this grotesque wrister against the Wild last week.

Head, hands and feet — through only ten career contests, Pettersson has proven to be elite in all three areas, and he’s still days away from turning 20.

He was named rookie of the year and MVP in the Swedish Elite League last season, and even after missing time with a concussion, he legitimately has a chance to be firmly in the running for the same two chunks of hardware in the best league in the world come season’s end.

Will he be? Who knows, but one thing is all but certain: the Canucks have scored an absolute steal at No. 5 in the 2017 Draft. This dude is a baller.
